Where to Now.... the Crypt??

I am now officially done school, and the entirety of my future looms before me! It is definitely a little scary being fresh out of school and not quite knowing what to do and where to go. I feel a little awkward and uncomfortable in this transition stage full of new things and learning moments.
Up until now, I've been in school since I was 4-years old, now I'm finally out at 22! I'm allowing myself a moment to catch my breath and adjust to this new change (I haven't even had my convocation ceremony yet, take a chill pill Erica!!) before taking on new things. I've been applying to a few positions, dabbling here and there with some side projects, and working my day job for the past month.
I'm trying to find my footing and am trying to set myself up for new changes and exciting things to come! I've been wanting to get back into the swing of things, having taken a small break from development for a fun staycation with some friends from out of town, and I'm raring to go!
To do this, I want to start a small side project while I'm working, building up my portfolio, and applying to different positions! My brain has been feeling a bit sluggish and in 'vacation' mode so I wanted to give myself something fun yet challenging to get back into my development mindset. I started with my usual process when I'm trying to come up with ideas, poking around on the internet, browsing Pinterest and random prompt generators until inspiration struck.
I want to create a game design based off something that popped into my head while brainstorming: 'Cutie Crypt'! This would include character designs, environment pieces, concepts and maybe a little bit of narrative. I love, love, LOVE the juxtaposition of 'scary but adorable' and monster girls so this side project has inspired me. I'm so excited to flex all these different aspects of my game design brain to get myself back into my old routine. I hope to post updates to both my journal as well as update my portfolio when I have something substantial. So stay tuned for future updates and posts!!
Until next time, thank you for taking the time to read this, enjoy your summer!!
